The Office is the American version of the hit original British comedy. Set in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the show documents the work lives of the staff at Dunder Mifflin, a paper distributor. The office is managed by Michael Scott, an irresponsible outcast who desperately wants the love and respect of his staff. Dwight, Michael’s oddball assistant, is militant in his love and support of Michael and hatred for his co-worker, Jim. The show’s ongoing storyline revolves around Jim and the former receptionist, Pam, who are engaged and who enjoy poking fun at the antics that take place in the office.
The Office is inconsistent when it comes to content appropriate for families. For the most part it is clean, but the occasional dirty joke or sexual innuendo does occur. The majority of the sexual content revolves around Michael, who frequently uses blatant sexual innuendo and sexual gestures. Language is also a mild concern with words such as “damn,” “ass,” and “hell” being used frequently. Violence is not a problem for the program.
The Office is not recommended for viewers under age 14.
