Here Come the Newlyweds

ABC’s Here Come the
Newlyweds is a reality show in which newly married couples compete for a
chance to win a life-altering cash prize. In the June 8th episode
(10:00 p.m. ET), the couples were quizzed on how much they knew about their
spouse, learned from a tantric educator, and competed in a challenge at a
hardware store.
The episode was rife with
sexual content. After one of the wives, Mrs. Hinkins, describes her first gift
to her husband as a set of sheets featuring characters from the Disney movie
Cars, another couple crassly wonders if Mrs. Hinkins “is getting bent over
on them.” Next, the couples are shown in a montage talking about foreplay with
their partners. Later, a tantric educator visits the house and teaches the
couples to active their “orgasmic energy” and be responsible for their own “orgasmicness.”
But there was still more sexual
content to come in this episode, which the ABC network chose to rate PG. As the
couples lounge around a pool, the Corlisses describe their first sexual
encounter together, and how they destroyed the house in the process. The
challenge in this episode took place at a hardware store where the husbands had
to describe to their wives each item they needed to buy without using the item’s
name. Mark Corliss describes “rope” to his wife as “If I wanted to tie you up
with it, I’d use it.” Because of the sheer frequency of sexual content, this
episode should have been rated TV-14 DL.
